Generating a dome with FemGV

By Jeff Smith - Posted on 29 April 2010

Given the tools available in FemGV - i.e. lines, arcs, sweeping, rotating etc - does any body have suggestions for generating a hemispherical dome?
I can use arcs to define a meridional line/section through the dome, and then sweep it around by rotation, but how do I mesh it up without getting a high density mesh at the apex?

Hi Jeff,

I once dealt with this. I defined a meridiane and swept it along a quarter of the circumference. I had to attach the shape (sphere) to the surface to be able to mesh the surface (MESHING SHAPE <part> <shape>). I used a paved meshing algo to avoid 'infinitesimal elements' in the middle.

Excellent.  Just what I needed.  I shall try it myself .  I am unfamiliar with attaching shapes to a surface - it is something I must try.
Thanks again.
